Aipono Awards Dinner

Last year, someone invited me to the Aipono Awards Dinner after I had expressed that I couldn’t make it. Is it a real invitation if you didn’t know you were invited — but only after you said you’re unavailable? Strangely, the person who invited me has done this more than once. Is it a defense mechanism, a mere gesture of false generosity or attempt at genuine surprise?

The Aipono Awards Dinner is one of several haute cuisine, wine pairing, sublime events that is on the bucket list of every traveller to Maui. Unfortunately, tickets go fast.

The next one is Friday the 13th of April 2018. Sadly I have not been invited.
